Summary

He’s a hitman, and if you can’t look or drive like a damn hitman, what’s the point of killing people for money?
It’s a ridiculous moment, one that completely undermines any desire for the show to be taken seriously as a semi-dramatic, semi-sensible story about a hitman with Alzheimer’s, because it’s really a show about a father who treats murder like it’s cosplay. It’s basically Batman. Alzheimer’s is basically the Joker (and not an actual neurodegenerative disease).
And the whole thing is just plain absurd, which I consider a blessing for the show. While Angelo is a juicy role for Dempsey, one he plays competently, the best thing about Memory of a Killer is how perfectly Dempsey’s silver hair looks, in a “I’m a hitman!” kind of way, in every single frame. I’m talking tonsoral perfection, “better than a werewolf sipping a piña colada at Trader Vic’s.” The second best thing about Memory of a Killer is the “I’m a hitman!” Porsche EV. Angelo’s lighting and framing are so impeccable every time he appears on screen that I suspect Porsche covered a significant portion of the show’s budget. The third best part of Memory of a Killer is Angelo’s “I’m a hitman!” wardrobe, which should come with ordering instructions.
